Rebozo Closing Workshop: A 3-Day Immersion in Mexican Contemporary Midwifery

This October, I'm co-organising something close to my heart: a three-day, hands-on training in rebozo closing, herbal bath, steaming, and sobada, rooted in Mexican contemporary midwifery.

It's taking place here in North London, in a warm, dedicated studio space in Stoke Newington, from 28th–30th October 2026.

I'll be co-facilitating alongside Mexican Midwife Alejandra Lozano, who brings over 13 years of experience and more than 200 births accompanied to this work. Her practice bridges the wisdom of traditional and professional mentors with lived experience across home births, public hospitals, and birth centres, and it's a privilege to be offering this workshop with her.

Why This Work Matters

Closing ceremonies, rebozo work, and traditional postpartum care aren't new. They carry generations of knowledge; knowledge that's often been sidelined by dominant models of maternity care, even as it continues to hold and heal families across Mexico and the diaspora.

This workshop is an invitation to learn these skills properly: with your hands, in community, under real guidance; not as a passing trend, but as a practice grounded in lineage.

For doulas, midwives, and health professionals working with birthing people, this is a chance to add genuinely embodied skills to your practice; the kind you can only really learn by doing.

What the Workshop Covers

Over three immersive days, we'll cover:

Rebozo closing. The wrapping and binding techniques used to close the body after birth
Herbal bath. Traditional preparations and their role in postpartum recovery
Steaming (vaporización). Rooted in the practice of temazcal and focused on womb healing.
Sobada. Traditional abdominal and body massage

This is a small-group, skills-based training — deliberately limited to 12 participants — so that everyone has real space to practise, ask questions, and receive close guidance from Alejandra and myself.

We'll also have a small selection of ethically sourced, artisan-made rebozos from Mexico available to purchase during the workshop, if you'd like to bring one home with you.

A £200 deposit secures your place, with the remaining balance payable in cash on Day 1.
