I have a logo!

I'm so happy to finally share this with you my new logo, and the story of how it came to be.

It took months to get here, and it's special to me for two reasons: for what it represents, and for who made it. My dear mama friend Berni (a.k.a. María B Batlle) designed it for me, and I couldn't imagine it having come from anyone else.

How Berni and I Found Each Other

I met Bernie when I was pregnant, and we became close almost instantly. We ended up sharing our firstborn children's first two years of life together. The fun and the chaos of it, but also the harder parts: struggles with mental health, a PhD thesis, a support bubble during COVID, being there for each other when my son's dad and I separated. Berni was there for all of it. And in being there for me, she also became the mother of one of my son's best friends; a friendship our boys have had since they were babies, since before they even understood what friendship was.

Our relationship has had its own seasons, closer at times and further at others, two years apart while she lived abroad, moments where life pulled us in different directions. That's part of life too. So doing something together again, after all this time, means a lot.

Where the Logo Comes From

While Bernie was living in Peru, she went deep into a study of Mesoamerican iconography (spanning from Mexico through Central America down to Patagonia) researching the symbology of deities and figures, and indigenous ways of understanding the life forces we can't fully explain. That research became the foundation for her own tarot deck, entirely her own artwork: Kimün, a Latin American tarot (you can get one here!)

Watching her go through that creation process: the research, the art, the spiritual growth of it, was something I feel lucky to have witnessed.

Designing the Logo

Knowing her talent, her intelligence, and the way she thinks about symbolism, I asked Berni to design my logo. It took some trial and error to get there; lots of creative and unexpected directions, but what we landed on is exactly right.

It holds nurturing, love, and care. Individuality and tradition. Ceremony. The threshold of being born and not-yet-born at once, which is what the transition into motherhood really is.
